Where We Started

In 1999, Richard Root founded Root Engineering Services in Vernon Hills, Illinois and was able to grow quickly due to his keen sense of what clients needed, his understanding of budgets and the emphasis he placed on quality design.

In 2005, Adam Harris joined the team in Illinois and shortly after in 2009, he moved to Texas and started operations in the Texas market. Currently, Adam remains in Texas and works diligently to determine the best solutions for his clients and is committed to quality engineering.

In 2023, after 24 years of dedication to providing exceptional MEP services, Richard Root retired from the company. Rich stayed invested in limited capacities in the company’s success and future growth until his recent passing in November of 2024. We plan to honor the legacy Rich leaves behind at Root Engineering by continuing to serve our clients with quality design, professionalism and efficiency.

Adam Harris, P.E. now heads both the Texas and Illinois offices.

While Root is currently operating out of both Texas and Wisconsin, future plans for expansion are focused in Texas due to a heightened emphasis on opportunities for growth in the north Texas region.

Naturally, most of our projects are located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex since that is where our office is, but we are licensed to design in 31 states across the U.S., with active projects in Texas, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
